Abstract

Based on panel data of 272 prefecture-level cities, this paper conducts an empirical analysis and finds that the digital economy significantly promotes the equalization of basic public services between urban and rural areas, and this conclusion is robust. Further mechanism tests show that the digital economy mainly functions by improving resource allocation efficiency and the accessibility of public services, but the digital divide has a restraining effect on it; at the same time, regional heterogeneity analysis reveals that this promoting effect is more significant in the western region.
