Abstract

Based on the survey data of university teaching and research personnel in Tianjin, Henan, and Sichuan, multiple regression models were used to analyze the impact of industry research on the quantity and quality of academic research. The study find that the influence of the number of industry research projects on the number of academic research projects has an “inverted U ” feature, and the number of industry research projects has no significant effect on obtaining national-level academic research projects. The scientific status and organizational status fail to effectively increase the impact of the number of industry research projects on the quantity and quality of academic research projects. These empirical findings mean that industry research has positive effects on the quantitative dimension of academic research, but has no impact on the quality dimension of academic research.
